It can also be said that this segment also pushes forward the idea that nature is quiet, peaceful and untouched. This idea is pushed even further with the slow fade-in effect. It’s no doubt that these first few seconds where composed strategically to draw viewers in with a sense of tranquillity and to exaggerate the warm, calmness of the forest. ![]() The first frames have also been given lens flare effect that cuts diagonally (top-left to bottom-right) through the ‘rule of third’ intersections. The camera also captures the sun in the top left-hand corner of the frame, piercing through the trees, creating multiple light pools on both leaves and tree trucks. The bird begins its descent onto a moss-covered sculpture highlighted by sunlight assumedly piercing through the leaves overhead, before the camera cuts to a close up of the bird, thus concluding the establishing shot.Īs stated before the shot initiates in the sub-canopy, slightly angled upwards to capture both the forest and a glimpse of the blue morning sky. The camera then takes viewers between two bushes that frame a relatively open area within the forest before a yellow bird ( Ganymede) enters the scene flying in from bottom left-hand corner towards the centre of the scene. The shot uses a fade-in effect, first capturing the sub-canopy of a forest, before moving slowly down towards the forest floor. The first establishing shot of this animated short film, which will serve as the shot to be deconstructed in this blog post, gives viewers a calm glimpse and introduction into what appears to be a rich, peaceful, warm forest, full of greenery and thriving with life.
